Small, high density census blocks approach the 700 m resolution of the VIIRS sensor so the scaling is clearly resolved on the high density tail. Blue rural areas correspond to larger, lower density census blocks extending into unlighted forest and farmland. Yellow in urban areas corresponds to brightly lighted commercial corridors, industrial areas, seaports and airports.
